Phil is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Canterbury, and is Deputy Director of the not-for-profit initiative Maths Craft New Zealand. Trained in mathematical fluid dynamics in the UK, Phil worked in biomathematics in Japan, and now likes to apply mathematics to problems in geology, oceanography, industry, sport, and space. He also works in the philosophy of mathematics, and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Mathematical Society.
